This weekend, I discovered the “doughnut of doubt”! A wise colleague was explaining how connecting with your intuitive knowing (or inner truth) can invite concerns (or doubts) to spring up round the outside. With his hands, he traced the shape of a doughnut, encouraging me to consider the hole within the whole.

Can you imagine a better strategy, when handling something unnerving, than to give it form as a doughnut! This delightful concept captivated my imagination but, more importantly, the explanation offered me options. I had been focusing on the existence (or not) of doubt, wondering if I should confront it or ignore it. Effortlessly, I shifted away from this binary choice and accepted the gift of big picture perspective…with sprinkles!

Miraculously, concerns began melting away – with no effort whatsoever on my part! A previously skeptical client suddenly booked a start date for his programme; a work colleague whose assistance had seemed doubtful jumped into the fray; and my daughter (who repeatedly adds commitments to my already overburdened schedule) actually asked to drop a time-consuming after-school activity.

I’m still savouring these wonderfully unexpected treats and sending gratitude to my friend and mentor Matt Church for his sweet gift.
